A certain image may come to mind when you think of the desert. Where I live in Sedona, AZ, we are a bit over 4,000 feet in elevation. That means we occasionally get snow. It really is beautiful against the famous Red Rocks of Sedona. Here is a picture of iconic Bell Rock and a recent snow storm. Have any of you been to Sedona in the snow? Regional Director, Jeff My family lived in Phoenix when I was a kid, and we were transplants from the St. Louis area where snow was a standard winter experience. My parents had some trouble adjusting to central/southern Arizona's 'lack of seasons'. We were also the only people on the street who foolishly attempted to grow grass and trees -- everyone else had rocks and cactus like you were supposed to! -- but I digress. At any rate, northern Arizona and the snowfall there was a mandatory trip for us, and we would travel up to Prescott, Flagstaff, and Sedona in search of the white stuff. I have fond memories of seeing deserts covered in snow, and traveling through the meandering Oak Creek Canyon with stops to see icy waterfalls. Arizona is such an interesting and diverse place, terrific to explore.

Having grown up in Sedona, I have many fond memories of enjoying red rock snow--a magical land indeed! My favorite game as the snow melts, is to look alongside the trail for which rocks "sink" into the mud and which rocks "float." Comments are closed.
