As NAI transitions from having regions and sections to having "organizational units", most of the regions are moving towards descriptive names instead of numbers. For example Region 9 will be 'The Sierra Pacific' and Region 3 is now 'The Sunny Southeast'. At our business meeting in Denver, the Region 8 members that were present brainstormed on possible names and came up with a creative list. In reality, we will need to keep our name short and sweet (it is currently 'The Southwest'), but I wanted to share with you the creative visions that came out of that meeting. Do you have an idea of what our name should be? Take a look at the list of ideas that came out of the brainstorming session by clicking 'Read More'... Region 8 has a new Board. Amy Lauder Erickson is the new Regional Director, Jess Niven-Kohring is the new Deputy Director, Kelley Reetz is our new Secretary and Jennifer Waithman is our new Treasurer. We are excited for this new chapter of our Region and look forward to making things happen. A big thanks to Diana Garcia for heading the elections and getting this ball rolling!
We are looking for an Elections Committee for the upcoming (very quickly upcoming!) elections. Please send us an email or Facebook message if you are interested in participating in this committee. Also, we need candidates for Director, Deputy Director, Secretary, and Treasurer. Nominate yourself or someone you know!
Dear Region 8 friends, we are experiencing some change again. For personal reasons, Jeff Miller has chosen to step down from his position as Region 8 Director. He still plans to be an active member of Region 8 and NAI, reminding us all to keep rocking! For the remainder of the term I will step into the role of Region 8 Director. Now comes the fun part. We need you. All of you! And especially a select few who are willing to dedicate your worthy time to continuing moving our region forward with the plans and ideas the recent leadership team has established. Your participation and help are integral to creating a thriving community of interpreters in the great Southwest. If you are interested in becoming involved in the leadership team, please let me know. If you are interested in assisting with Mini-Meets (localized "workshop"/gathering/exploration/etc.). please let me know. If you are interested in nominating someone to be part of the leadership team, please...well, you know what to do.
I look forward to meeting those of you planning to attend National in Reno. Sarena Actually, we’re looking for interpreters with innovative management approaches or programs to submit as concurrent session proposals for the November NAI National Workshop in Reno. It has been a consistent criticism that our national workshop would be more valuable if it included more content for managers. There are three tracks in which to submit: programs, media, and management; and, by far, programs is the most popular submission track. You can find submission criteria and submit your proposal through the NAI web site, www.interpnet.com/workshop and clicking on the Download the Call for Presentations Form button. If you have questions, you may contact either Deb or Emily at the NAI National Office, 888-900-8283.
From the National Office: "Website update: You can create an account and update your membership information online. Previous usernames and passwords from the old website are no longer valid. Please click "Create Account" to get started in the new system." www.interpnet.com
As you are probably aware, the server that hosted the NAI National website, blogs, and many of the Region and Section websites had a major malware affliction that spread and had to finally be shutdown mid-January. So here we are with our newly created web site and blog area. We hope you will explore, leave us comments, send us content, events, information, and photos to post and share.
There is an email link on up on the right-side top corner to send news, pictures and event info, and you can leave comments here on our postings. We look forward to hearing from you and sharing with you. |
