Region 8 Press Release Energy and Climate Literacy CIG Course March 31-April 4, 2014
Through a generous grant from NOAA, the Monterey Bay Aquarium is offering a Certified Interpretive Guide Training, Monday through Friday, March 31-April 4, 2014 at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California. This particular class is being conducted as part of a NOAA grant to train interpreters around the country to interpret aspects of climate change. Thanks to grant funding, the usual $365 fee per participant is waived and we’re able to offer this class to you free of charge. In return, we’ll be layering on some climate change interpretation techniques and background along with the standard course material. Specifically, under the NOAA BOAT (Building Ocean Awareness Together) grant, our charge is to focus on energy literacy, which is a fabulous topic as energy is a component in almost every natural and man-made system and phenomenon that offers a wide variety of themes to interpret. Instead of the typical 4-day course, a fifth day has been added to incorporate specific energy and climate literacy content and interpretation techniques. Space is limited and certain pre-requisites apply.
